ok...so after our awesome stop in austria, we headed back to bavaria in germany. we drove through the rolling hills heading for neuschwanstein castle. little did we know we'd be meeting up with approximately 100,000 of our closest friends. he he he...with that said, we did not go "in" the castle. the line was an hour just to get tickets. and we walked up the hillside because it was at least another hour wait for the carriage ride up. this boy did test our athletic abilities...and it would allow us guilt free pleasure of a tub of ice cream....each!!! ;)
here's a pic of the castle nestled in the hill as we walk to the ticket area.
the view from the top of the hill...
more view...
even if you are a part time viewer of my blog, you'll know how much i love clouds!!!! :)
So we walked up the path...i will tell you it wasn't a short path...and finally arrived at the castle. there was minimal complaining from the short legged people in our family. i was so proud of them!!!!
I've been practicing my starburst technique...and i just haven't had any luck getting it to fit in any of my photos. I've figured out the technique but i haven't been able to incorporate it into a photo where it makes sense. BUT...i finally found a place for my starburst. this was not done in photoshop people!! And let me tell you...if you are photographing into the sun...make sure your lens and sensor in your camera are clean...mine was not and now you can see the little black specks! don't fret, i'll edit those out in photo shop. ;)
the castle...did you know this castle was commissioned by king ludwig II as a retreat?
king ludwig II financed the palace with his own money...
i would love to photograph this place hanging out of a helicopter!!! and in winter! this castle was the inspiration for sleeping beauty's castle.
I believe this might be my favorite photo of the castle. it has an eerie kind of feeling...i like it. :)
I'm sorry. i hiked my butt all the way up that mountain...i'm gonna show you a ton of pics of the castle. ha ha ha.
a fella in meadow chillin' and doin' his thing. i felt like sleeping beauty was going to jump out of the bushes. ;)
we stopped for a quick "photo op" or rest time on the way down the hill...
man i would almost give my left arm, kind of need the right one, to have skin like them! Lucky!!!
this is what happens in the varner family when you start complaining. you get the fireman carry with some public humiliation on the side. :)
after finally reaching the base of the hill...we headed to garmish for our overnight stay at edelweiss. edelweiss is a military only resort in the town of garmish. it's so very cool! next time we will certainly stay a bit longer. the best part of staying there??? WASHING MACHINES!!!! we were straight up out of clean clothes by this point. it was nice to be slightly less offensive. :) this pic is just outside the walk-in gate to the resort. there aren't many pics of garmish because about 10 seconds after i took this pic, it started POURING down rain. i stuffed my camera in my my clothes and we made a run for it. lightening everywhere...huge rain drops and a very expensive camera make for a very fast runner!! ;)
if the girls could have dove into this sundae, they totally would have. ;)
nice 'stache dude!!!! this was by far the best restaurant during our trip. the spaetzle was sooooooo good!!!!!!
so...that's it for this day. next up? rothenburg ob der tauber...a really old medievil
town in bavaria. fun times there....
