after we left munich, we took off toward the mountains. we hopped in our rental car...stuffed all our luggage in a tiny little mercedes and jumped on the autobahn. our first stop would be the eagles nest, a mountain chalet presented to hitler on his 50th birthday.
the clown mobile...
once you arrive at the bottom of the mountain outside of obsersalzberg, everyone hops on buses and travels up to the tunnel...the tunnel is long and dark and then you travel up to the building using the original elevator. it's a brass elevator with green leather and mirrors...
waiting for the elevator...there were toooo many people in the elevator to get a good shot. sorry. :(
view from the top...
the eagle's nest...of which it is rumored that hitler only visited approx. 10 times and for no more than 30 minutes. it is said that he was not fond of heights...
even though this place is set in a fabulous setting with beautiful views, it was very hard not to think about what the man stood for. i felt myself walking around seeing all the beautiful scenery with a very heavy heart.
a few shots of the fam... we hiked up the mountain with the girls. rea is also not fond of heights....
my main squeeze...
exploring a path through a break in the rock
one of my favorite shots of them...
the girls sprinted through the tunnel. it cracked me up...it wasn't a short tunnel!
after our hike we jumped in the clown mobile and headed to austria. on our way out, just outside of obersalzberg, saw this church and the color of the amazing water running through town. it was so unbelievably blue/green/turquoise. amazing!!
we had an amazing drive through the countryside. i can't remember the last time i saw so much green. it was a much needed break from all the brown we see out here.
next up...a quick overnight stop in salzburg, austria.
