more adventures in prague...

a few more odds shots from prague.

the charles bridge...the bridge was started in 1357 and was the only way to cross the vltava river untl 1841.

the first is the lichtenstein palace. the facade of the building is actually on the water...obviously. ;) the building has seen at least three different looks. it was rebuilt with a baroque look and then a classicist look and then a neo-renaissance look.  this building was occupied by the nazis during ww II. it became an office building after that and then it became luxurious apartments for important visitors to the czech government.

wenceslas square...many protests and celebrations were held here. the national museum is the buiding with the white banner. it was closed while we were there so we didn't get to go in. this is the main protest sight during the prague uprisings against the nazis and large demonstrations were held here during the velvet revolution.

more subway shots. :)) and a really cool door knob! i love prague and all it's little surprises!

and we continue...

the fam and i decided to get lost in prague one afternoon. we found a cool park, grass, trees, grass, trees...you see we miss those things...we even managed to find a hooters. ha ha ha. here are some pics in the park and the subway. i'm infatuated with the subway. you can look forward to another subway post. it was just too cool to let it be. :)))))

SUBWAY!!!!

oh...so the escalator to the subway was insane. they should charge admission just to ride that! i promise it felt like we were moving along at about 40mph. the posters were hung all crazy on the walls so it gave me a little bit of vertigo...or maybe it was the beer at breakfast, lunch and dinner. nah.... when you approached the bottom you had to be on your game. if you weren't...it would shoot you off the end. so my friends...when in prague...ride the subway escalators!

prague....

so last time you visited, which was hopefully yesterday ;), we ventured out to the old town square in prague. today we sneak through an alley and a small street and head to the havelske trziste market and then back to the hotel for a cool trolley ride.

quickly back to the old town square:

this monument was erected to remember jan hus. he was burnt at the stake in 1415 for being a heretic. he spoke out against the roman catholic church and their practices. the hussite wars began after his killing, these wars were protests against the roman catholic church. the monument shows jan looking toward the church of our lady before tyn. this church was the hussites main church from 1419 to 1621.

the havelske trziste market...i didn't get too many photos here. i was too busy looking at everything and then it started raining a bit. argh!

the hotel we stayed in had two levels. the main level just off the street and then the more family area up the hill. how do you get up the hill? a hot red trolley naturally! the first image is looking down the trolley path at the lower part of the hotel and part of the city. the second photo is just a scenery shot from the trolley.

then our cutie patooties. r. before her teeth had a mass exodus! i think she lost 3 or 4 teeth during our european adventure. i'm surprised she was able to eat! and k. looking as innocent as ever. i'm sure she'd just pinched her sister for no reason. ;)

up next...the czech metro bullet escalators! these things were fast and steep. you had to ride them to get to the metro and they literally ejected you off at the bottom. you had to have your game on or you were getting tossed off for sure. :)

WOWZERS!!

sorry for abandoning you during the summer and now into the fall. we were traveling a lot and when i returned back to bahrain i was asked to be a long term sub for third grade at our daughters' school. Well...that happened within the first few days of september. my teacher arrived last week and now i am home free. back to being mom an aspiring artist, military wife and a royal pain in everyone else's sides. fun times ahead!!

now i have to make up for lost time. i have TONS of pictures to post. after our trip to spain, our next adventure was in prague. i have to say...we LOVED prague!!! everything is really old and awesome...the language sounded like a mixture of german and russian. they have crazy letters in their alphabet and beer is valued more that water. :))))) and the beer was good...actually....it was awesome! so the next few days i'll take you around prague and let you see the sites.

first stop...old town square. old town square consists of many old buildings such as the astronomical clock, the old town hall, st. nicholas church, church of our lady before tyn and others. the first image is the top of the church of our lady before tyn. construction on this church began in the 14th century in the late gothic style.

the next two images are of the astronomical clock. it was installed in 1410 and is the third oldest astronomical clock and the only one still working. The building it is installed on is the Old Town City Hall. The last image is of the side of where the clock is installed, the city hall tower.

budweiser??? apparently budweiser was a czech brewery that was founded around 1785. They exported to the US and then Anheuser Bush tried to trademark their budweiser in 1876. A trademark dispute ensued and it was decided that anheuser bush could only use budweiser in north america. and so you have it...

the next image...we walked through a foul odor.  it was damp and it's an old city and jason was standing next to us. not sure which one stunk. ;)

so i hope you've forgiven me for my delayed postings. i had a blast substituting for the last almost 2 1/2 months. But......i'm glad to be getting back to my thing. i'm going to be editing photos like it's my job. oh wait....it is. ;)  Sbohem !  (zboe-ham) czech for good bye!!
